The lighter side of life – Get off of facebook and into God’s book! – The serious side of life – Praise the Lord for such a warranty.

Nuggets of Gold from Hebrews # 37

PRAISE THE LORD FOR SUCH A WARRANTY, SUCH A COVENANT, SUCH A NUGGET!!! !

When we buy a new car we want the best and longest warranty we can get. It puts a sinking feeling in our stomach when it breaks down just a day after the warranty expires. So in order to keep this from happening we buy an extended warranty only to find it too has a limit. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could afford a warranty that would last forever? Well we may not be able to get this kind of warranty on a new car, but we can get an eternal warranty on our lives. Oh, we cannot afford to pay for it but that is just the reason Jesus came into this world, to pay for that we could not pay. By dying on the cross He purchased an eternal warranty on our lives, a new life and when this old body wears out we will get a brand new one that will last forever.

The New Testament is ratified forever. Heb 9:15-28

A brief statement about our benefits. Vs. 15,16 – “And for this cause he is the media-tor of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.” A man makes a will and determines how to distribute his estate. But the inheritance goes to no one until the man dies. Christ’s eternal inheritance is given to His church. This inheritance is spelled out in the New Covenant, Christ’s “last will and testament.” But for the will to take effect, He had to die. But He not only died to make it effective, but He then came back from the dead to administer it personally.

A broad statement about our Benefactor. Vs. 16-28

Our inheritance is conveyed to us by His death. Vs. 16-22 – “ For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

The need for His death stated. Vs. 16,17 – “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: other wise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.”

The need for His death studied. Vs. 18-22

In the light of what Moses did. Vs. 18,19 – “Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,”

In the light of what Moses declared. vs. 20 – “Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.”

In the light of what Moses demonstrated. vs. 21,22 – “Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

Our inheritance is controlled for us by His life. Vs. 23-28…

His present appearing to deal with sin’s power. Vs. 23,24 – “It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:”

His last appearing to deal with sin’s penalty. Vs. 25-28a – “Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;”

The unremitting sacrifices ordered by the Law. The unrepeated sacrifice offered by the Lord.

His promised appearing to deal with sin’s presence. Vs. 28b – “and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
