We often wonder why, with each generation, there is a slippage from sound doctrine, standards, music, separated living, etc.  One of our team members, Dr. Milton Jones, pastor of the Heritage Baptist Church in Frankfort, Il has some very interesting information on this subject.

Mentors recognize the necessity of translating truth, values, and expertise generationally.  2 Timothy 2:1, 2 -  “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.�

A mentor does not attempt to clone his own personality, preferences, or prejudices.  He does strive to inculcate a Biblical philosophy of life, a work ethic, and vision.  The mentor communicates both the “how to do it� and the “why!�
