Acts 1:2,3 – “… he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:â€?
Dealing with what the Lord must have taught His disciples during the 40 days on earth after His resurrection. The things He taught them changed their prospective and set them on fire with new enthusiasm.
I believe it would be good if we could get just a little of what they got. I want us to see one of the greatest motivating factors we will ever find.
Now watch it. Eleven men empowered by the Holy Ghost of Almighty God. Spoke in 14 different languages. Someone said – “There is something wrong with these nuts, their drunk.â€?
But Peter said – no sir, they are not. What you are seeing today is what Joel said would happen in the last days. “I will pour my Spirit out upon all, not just for the Jew, but for everybody. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
No wonder Jesus said in Matt 9:37-38 – “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.â€?
Turn to John 4:34,35 – “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.â€? Acts 15:13-17 – “And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: 14. Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, 16. After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17. That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.â€? I Cor. 12:13 – “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.â€?
No wonder the disciples got so excited and in just a few years the church had, by some sources, grown to over 20 thousand. All was not lost, they had found a new goal in life, and it wasn’t going back to their old occupations. There was something to live for.
And so, my dear friend, what are you living for? Are we more interested in our occupations than we are of the harvest of souls? After all, isn’t the harvest of souls what the Lord left us here to do?
Let me ask you, how many have you personally led to the Lord in the past year? I don’t know about you, but I am ashamed of my record. I sure hope the Lord doesn’t come before I get to doing the business He left me here to do. Matt 9:37-38 – “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.â€?
