Ex 32:1-6 – “And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. 2. And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. 3. And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4. And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6. And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.â€?
Let us take a look at the results. – Sin.   Moses calls all of this unacceptable behavior “so great a sinâ€? Ex 32:27
How many of the Ten Commandments did Israel break that day? At the very least the first three. Ex 20:3 – “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.â€? Ex 20:4 – “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:â€? Ex 20:7 – “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain;â€? They deceived themselves into thinking that they were worshiping God while in the process of committing sins.
How many scriptural commands are openly broken today by people who say they love and serve the Lord Jesus? How many sinful activities are practiced in secret by those in full-time Christian service? We do not know the answer to these questions, but God does. And He will not accept the worship, sacrifice or service of those who willfully disobey Him and refuse to repent. 1 John 1:6 – “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:â€? Again, I am crying out loud and clear that worship blended with sin is an abomination to God.
Listen to me, to call it worship of the Lord when rebellion, falsehood, self-indulgence, immodesty and commandment breaking are involved is to provoke the wrath of God.
We simply must not do it.
