Lam 5:21 – “Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.� -  Ps 80:3 – “Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.�

We need to be turned.

We need to be turned; we need God’s help.  We cannot turn ourselves by laws or legislation or education or by any kind of national choice.  What our beloved America needs is a change of heart.  Our problems are spiritual problems of the inner life of sinful wills and sinful ways.  The bitter truth is that though America once knew God, at least to fear Him, in two hundred years we have largely turned away.

Now this does not say that we have ever been wholly a Christian nation.  But we have known the moral and spiritual strength that comes from the fear of God.  Of what it is to have an awareness of the Bible, and an overruling faith in Jesus Christ.

In two hundred years we moved a long way in humanist pride and trust in men.  We have not been afraid to push away the Word of God.  We have magnified the rights of men and minimized the rights of God.

And worst of all, we have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but as a nation we have esteemed it lightly. Rom. 1:18 – “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;”
