THE JUSTIFIED MAN # 16

February 10th, 2009

Rom 4:17-25 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

When are we justified

The consideration of faith. Vs. 19, 20 The strength of Abraham’s faith was the strength of God’s ability. It was not how intense that he concentrated on his problem. He was perfectly relaxed. The strength of his faith was in God’s almighty power.

Think on this; Faith does not close its eyes to reality. It does not seek to evaporate difficulties by piously ignoring them. It does not minimize difficulties. But what it does do is it magnifies God. To all natural appearances and probabilities, there was not a solitary chance for the achievement of his goal. But in the midst of this consideration faith “staggered not” but was “strong.” And because of this, faith made the impossible possible.

When faith is the dominating force of our lives – It changes the very quality of our labors and makes them fit into the great scheme of God for eternity. When one lives and labors by faith, it is as noble an achievement to fix a broken fence as it is to preach a sermon or teach a Sunday School class if that is what God want us to do.

What is the difference between great men and ordinary men? It is the daring of faith which determines to leave the ordinary paths and go all the way with God. The thing that makes the difference is – Faith added to mediocrity. Faith added to sincerity. Faith added to ignorance. Faith added to the common-place.
