TURNING ASIDE # 5

October 25th, 2008

Ps 101 – “A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing.
2. I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.  3. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.  4. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.  5. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
6. Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.  7. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.  8. I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

Text – vs. 3b “I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.â€?

Character is something that we see very little of today.

Now when the job is done – Give God the glory.  Oh how often we fall on our face before God and call upon His help because there is no other way.  Then, we bow gracefully when we hear the applause of men.

Someone said – “Preacher, you have done a great work.â€?  No, you see, the truth of the matter is, God has done a great work.  How privileged we are to be used of Him.  May we always be conscious of Rom 7:18 – “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh), dwelleth no good thing.â€?  May God help us to give God the glory and not turn aside.

Now you may ask – How have we turned aside?  Some have turned aside in the matter of salvation.  Some have said – “I can’t hold out.â€?  Some have said – “I tried to live right and failed.â€?  Listen; is anything too great for God?  Isa. 59:1-2 – “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.â€?  Some have turned aside in the matter of living a separated life for Christ.

Oh but you say – “The temptations are too great.â€? I Cor. 10:13 – “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.â€?  You say, “I’m just too weak to live the life.â€? Phil. 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which stengtheneth me.â€?

Now, how about you – Have you turned aside? Psa. 101:3b – “I hate the work of them that turn aside.â€?
