John 14:1-6 – “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.â€?
Christ’s Preparation. John 14:2-4 – “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” He prepared something, but it wasn’t mansions. Makes good preaching, but it just isn’t so. The mansions were already there. vs. 2 – “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.â€? You see, the mansions were already there.
Where, or what was the place? vs. 2 – “I go to prepare a place for you.â€? When was this spoken? – The night before He was crucified. He had set His face steadfast toward Jerusalem. He was going to the cross. Now watch this – “And if I go (to the cross) and prepare a place for you.” When He cried from the cross “It is finished” my place in Glory was secured.
Let us think of the cost of that preparation. Let us look at one of the scenes. Luke 23:39-43 – “And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.â€?
Where did He go? – To Paradise.
